There are only a few words worthy of describing Nanami Okazaki: compelling, enthralling, beautiful. Words that she herself would prefer others to use, as it helps to uphold the carefully curated image she projects onto the world.

Not to say that Nana wasn’t these things; being a socialite that frequented places like the West Tans had its perks, undeniably, but to claim it as her sole personality and interest was another issue altogether. Nanami on film was like a dream—she floated in and out of balls and galas like an airy whisper, donning the most exquisite fashion and acknowledging only the most influential people. She nabbed the best tables in the best restaurants and the most eligible bachelors beauty could bring. From the outside, she truly had it all and more. Born into the claws of a ruthless celestial family, Nana drifts away from the wear and tear of ecclesiastical politics and focuses instead on the inner peace of the Arts. Years and years and years of various achievements in this world alone—cover-paging Vogue and Time, directing films in the 70s (erotic, horror, or a viscousy combination), even creating the world’s most expensive painting above da Vinci: a mysterious portrait in her own blood, which now sits in the Consanescus on Mars. Her newest obsession? Death. In the face of death, she smiles; when it is mentioned in conversation, her lips curve in a certain Cheshirelike manner, for it is the great escape of the world. And she is looking for a new muse.

With a penchant for the morbid and esoteric, Nana finds her calling inside of morgues (where she dons latex bodysuits, processing her most favored clients). In a world where death is swift, bodies are fleeting, and desecration is the new form of burial, her mission is to transform the deceased into tasteful works of art and arrange a glamorous event that will honor their lives forever. However, two ground rules apply: the family pays a pretty penny, of course, and Nanami holds all creative rights to do what she pleases with the corpses. Alongside this business, she dwells in the realm of information.
